FREE SHIPPING THRESHOLDS, VAT, LOGISTICS: THE BUSINESS RULES NO PLUGIN HANDLES

As soon as your store sells abroad, to professionals or with precise delivery rules, standard plugins break. What gets stuck, and how to fix it properly.

In brief
  • Free shipping by zone and by amount, OSS VAT by country, export outside the EU, POS as master of stock, trade prices: standard plugins break.
  • We write the rule in plain language, check it on three real cases, code a dedicated module.
  • A smart free shipping threshold with a message in the cart raises the average basket.

A store that sells a standard product in France works with off-the-shelf plugins. As soon as it leaves that frame, every rule becomes a battle of settings. Here are the cases I meet most.

Smart free shipping

Free from €80 in France, from €150 in Europe, never to Switzerland, with a message in the cart “only €12 more for free delivery”. Plugins handle one threshold, rarely several per zone, almost never the message. A dedicated module does that in a few hundred lines, and the average basket goes up.

VAT when selling in several countries

Beyond a sales threshold in Europe, the VAT of the customer's country applies (OSS one-stop shop). You need the right rate per country and per product type, a compliant invoice, and a monthly export for the accountant. Stores often do it by hand, with errors. A module does it at the right moment, and produces the export.

Export outside Europe

Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States: invoice without VAT, customs mentions, declared weights and values, different carriers by zone, sometimes different prices. Every plugin handles part of it; none handles the whole.

The POS that stays master of the stock

A business with a physical shop and an online store has a single real stock: the POS's. The site must read it, not invent it. Without sync, you sell online what just left the shop.

Trade prices

A trade customer sees their prices, their discounts, their outstanding balance, their payment terms. A consumer sees the public price. On the same store, without two sites.

How we fix it

We write the rule in plain language, check it with you on three real cases, code a module that does exactly that, test on a copy of the store, put it in production. It is the work described on Custom modules and Integrations.
